Enquiries in this area are very healthy and our team are currently working on a number of converted container café units. The well-documented problems of high street shops and restaurants have forced many an entrepreneur to get creative when looking for locations and innovative spaces for new ventures. Container conversions offer a wide range of solutions for cafes, restaurants and pop up shops.

Cliff Top Shipping Container Conversion Café – The Brief

The clifftop location on the east coast of Scotland with stunning views over the sea and coastline was the ideal spot for one of our recent container conversion café projects. Having obtained planning permission for a period of five years, the café owners required a non-permanent solution, but which would be robust enough to withstand the storms that the North Sea could throw up over the winter months. The natural scenery and views of the area were a key factor in selecting this location, and the design would be tasked with making the most of these views.

To maximise the space the owners specified an open plan layout which would afford the majority of tables the much sought after view over the coast and out to sea. They also required a separate kitchen area and service counter.

Bespoke Container Café Solution by Eldapoint

The Eldapoint Container Conversions Team selected three 40ft and two 20ft used shipping containers, they removed the sidewalls of the containers and fitted boxed section frames to strengthen the walls and fitted a linking system. The linking system was especially important to this project as it would ensure the joined sections would be both wind resistant and watertight, especially when bad weather and stormy seas hit the coast.

As you will see from the photo gallery above, the all-important view was to be the centre-piece of the project, so our conversions team completely replaced the side of the 40 ft container which faced the sea with full length and height double glazed vision panels. Two further full width and height vision panels were located at the ends of the other two 40ft containers to maximise the coastal view where possible.

The original container doors were left in position - a nod to their humble past, plus provided added security, as well as an additional external feature. To meet legislation additional doors and a fire escape door were fitted as an emergency exit from the kitchen and a set of patio doors were put in place for the public entrance.

The completed container café was clad in tongue and groove tanalised timber which was left in its raw format, allowing it to blend more aesthetically with the surrounding sandy beaches and cliffs.

Have a look through our image gallery below which will show the process including stages of installation and the final finished cafe.

The project has been well received by locals and visitors alike who have embraced the addition of a café as a welcome break during walking and cycling days out. The area attracts many visitors throughout the year and visitor numbers have been healthy especially during warm summer days. The views certainly create a talking point over a good coffee and the biggest issue the owners may have is making sure visitors leave before closing time!
